Uroxatral
Uroxatral is a medication used to treat men with urinary retention or obstruction due to an enlarged prostate. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Uroxatral is available as a generic drug.

Important Information
You should not use Uroxatral if you are allergic to alfuzosin, or if:
- you have liver disease;
- you are also taking ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), or erythromycin (E.E.S., E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin, Pediazole); or
- you have a history of low blood pressure, or you are also taking a blood pressure medication.
To make sure Uroxatral is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- liver disease;
- kidney disease;
- low blood pressure;
- a heart rhythm disorder; or
- problems with urination.
Alfuzosin may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
Avoid standing for long periods of time or becoming overheated during exercise and in hot weather. Alfuzosin can decrease blood flow to the extremities, causing dizziness and fainting.
Grapefruit may interact with alfuzosin and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking Uroxatral.
Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).
Before taking this medicine

How should I take Uroxatral?
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose.
Take Uroxatral on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal.
You may take Uroxatral with or without food.
Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush, chew, or open it.
Do not take two doses at one time.
If you cannot swallow a capsule whole, open it and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of applesauce. Swallow right away without chewing. Do not save the mixture for later use.
Call your doctor if you have trouble swallowing a capsule.
While using Uroxatral, you may need frequent blood tests.
If you stop taking Uroxatral for any reason, call your doctor before you start taking it again. You may need a dose adjustment.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
