Zyvox: An Effective Treatment for Bacterial Infections

Zyvox (linezolid) is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Zyvox is used to treat various types of bacterial infections, including skin infections, pneumonia, and infections of the blood. Zyvox is available in tablet and intravenous (IV) form. Common side effects of Zyvox include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and dizziness. Zyvox can cause serious or life-threatening side effects, including low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and seizures. Before taking Zyvox, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, a history of stroke or blood clot, or a history of head injury or brain surgery. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Zyvox is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. Take Zyvox exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Shake the oral suspension well before each use. Measure the oral suspension with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup. Zyvox can be taken with or without food. Zyvox may cause a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of serotonin syndrome, such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: confusion, drowsiness, or coma; agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, fast heart rate, muscle stiffness, twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea; seizure (convulsions); pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin; cold, clammy skin; breathing problems; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; slow or uneven heart rate; jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or kidney problems--little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath. Common side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea; headache, dizziness; or sleep problems (insomnia). This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose. An overdose of Zyvox is not expected to be dangerous. Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication. Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, confusion, and seizures. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
