NPXL

NPXL is a generic medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. NPXL relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. NPXL is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence) and symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate).

How to take NPXL?

NPXL can be taken with or without food. NPXL should be taken orally about 30 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity. If you take NPXL more than once a day, take it at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. Do not take more than 3 doses of NPXL in a 24-hour period.

What are the side effects of NPXL?

The most common side effects of NPXL are headache, flushing, stuffy or runny nose, indigestion, upset stomach, and back pain. These side effects usually go away after a few hours. Contact your doctor if you have any of these side effects that bother you or do not go away. The most serious side effect of NPXL is a sudden decrease or loss of vision. This may be a sign of a serious eye problem. Contact your doctor right away if you have a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes.

What are the precautions when taking NPXL?

Before taking NPXL, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart problems (such as heart attack or life-threatening irregular heartbeat in the past 6 months, chest pain/angina, heart failure), stroke in the past 6 months, kidney disease, liver disease, high or low blood pressure, a severe loss of body water (dehydration), penis conditions (such as angulation, fibrosis/scarring, Peyronie's disease), history of painful/prolonged erection (priapism), conditions that may increase the risk of priapism (such as sickle cell anemia, leukemia, multiple myeloma), eye problems (such as retinitis pigmentosa, sudden decreased vision, NAION), bleeding disorders, active stomach ulcers. NPXL may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away. The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation. Before using NPXL, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the drugs you take and if you have any of the following conditions: certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death). Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may increase if you use certain drugs (such as diuretics/"water pills") or if you have conditions such as severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about using NPXL safely. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially QT prolongation (see above). This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
