Trileptal

Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) is a medication used to treat seizures and epilepsy. It is also used to treat trigeminal neuralgia, a condition that causes chronic pain in the face. Trileptal is an anticonvulsant that works by reducing nerve impulses that cause seizures and pain. It is available in generic form and as the brand-name drugs Oxtellar XR and Trileptal.

Trileptal is a prescription drug. It comes as an oral tablet, an oral suspension, and an extended-release oral tablet. The oral tablet is available as the brand-name drug Oxtellar XR. Trileptal is also available as a generic drug. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. In some cases, they may not be available in every strength or form as the brand-name drug. Trileptal may be used as part of a combination therapy. That means you need to take it with other drugs.

Side effects

• Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Syncope, dysarthria, amnesia, nystagmus
• Rare (less than 0.1%): Convulsions, status epilepticus
