What is Eulexin? Eulexin (flutamide) is a synthetic antiandrogen that is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells require androgens (male hormones) for growth and survival. Eulexin works by blocking the effects of androgens (male hormones). Eulexin is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. Eulexin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Important Information You should not use Eulexin if you are allergic to flutamide. Before taking this medicine You should not use Eulexin if you are allergic to flutamide. To make sure Eulexin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: liver disease; kidney disease; diabetes; heart disease, high blood pressure; a history of stroke; a history of blood clots; a bleeding or blood clotting disorder; if you are a smoker; or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not use Eulexin if you are pregnant. It could harm the unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while you are using this medicine. Do not breast-feed while taking Eulexin. How should I take Eulexin? Take Eulexin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Eulexin is usually taken three times per day, with meals. While using Eulexin, you may need frequent blood tests. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Eulexin. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. What happens if I miss a dose? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose. What happens if I overdose? Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. What should I avoid while taking Eulexin? Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). Eulexin can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Eulexin. Avoid taking an antacid within 2 hours before or after you take Eulexin. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while you are taking Eulexin. Eulexin side effects Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating; swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet; high blood sugar - increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, fruity breath odor; low blood sugar - headache, hunger, sweating, irritability, dizziness, nausea, fast heart rate; a seizure (convulsions); a skin rash or itching; breast pain, tenderness, or discharge; or signs of a blood clot - sudden vision changes, confusion, slurred speech, problems with coordination or balance. Common Eulexin side effects may include: mild skin rash; mild nausea, vomiting, upset stomach; breast tenderness or swelling; hot flashes; decreased sexual ability; or impotence, loss of interest in sex, or trouble having an orgasm. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
