Erectafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It is in a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Erectafil relaxes muscles and increases blood flow to certain areas of the body. Erectafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). Erectafil may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Important Information You should not take Erectafil if you are allergic to tadalafil. Before taking this medicine You should not take Erectafil if you are allergic to tadalafil. To make sure Erectafil is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had: heart disease or heart rhythm problems; a heart attack or stroke; angina (chest pain), high or low blood pressure; pulmonary hypertension (unless you are taking tadalafil for this); a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia; a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia; a stomach ulcer; retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye); a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease); or if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons. Erectafil is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether tadalafil passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine. Erectafil is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. How should I take Erectafil? Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Erectafil is usually taken only once per day. Follow your doctor's instructions. Overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and bleeding. If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canada residents can call a provincial poison control center. Symptoms of an Erectafil overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, bleeding, dizziness, fainting, or vision changes. What happens if I miss a dose? If you take Erectafil for erectile dysfunction, you should know that it does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual desire. Erectafil does not prevent pregnancy or the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). What happens if I overdose? Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. What should I avoid while taking Erectafil? Do not take Erectafil if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. This includes nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). Taking Erectafil with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure. If you are taking Erectafil for erectile dysfunction, your doctor will probably start you on an average dose of Erectafil and increase or decrease your dose depending on your response to the medication. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase certain side effects of tadalafil. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with tadalafil and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking Erectafil. Avoid taking an antacid within 4 hours before or after you take Erectafil. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb tadalafil. Erectafil side effects Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling; irregular heartbeat; swelling in your ankles or feet; shortness of breath; vision changes or sudden vision loss; or feeling dizzy, fainting, and you might pass out. Common Erectafil side effects may include: flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling); headache, dizziness; upset stomach; muscle pain, back pain; or ringing in your ears. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. What other drugs will affect Erectafil? Taking Erectafil with certain other medicines can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure. Do not take this medicine if you are also using: riociguat (Adempas); or a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. This includes nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers").
