Renagel

Renagel is a prescription medication used to treat high phosphate levels in the blood in people with kidney problems. It works by binding to phosphate in the intestine, which helps prevent its absorption into the bloodstream. Renagel is available as a generic drug. Call your doctor at once if you have: joint pain or swelling with fever, rash, or red or purple skin lesions; muscle pain or weakness; new or worsening kidney problems--little or no urinating, blood in your urine, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath; severe constipation, stomach pain, or bloating; pancreatitis--severe pain in your upper stomach that spreads to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate; or signs of a serious allergic reaction: hives, rash, itching; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Side effects may be more likely in older adults. Renagel can cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.
