Minocycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic, and is commonly used to treat acne. It is also used to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis. Minocycline is available in both generic and branded forms. Generic minocycline is a cheaper alternative to the branded version of the drug. Minocycline is available in both capsule and tablet form. The usual dose of minocycline for acne is 50-100mg per day. Minocycline may be taken with or without food. Minocycline is generally well-tolerated, but side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches and dizziness. More serious side effects include allergic reactions, liver damage and Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Minocycline is an effective acne treatment, but it is important to follow the dosage instructions carefully to minimize the risk of side effects.
