What Is Antivert? Antivert is the brand name for the medication meclizine. It's used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. Antivert is also used to treat symptoms of vertigo (dizziness or spinning sensation). Meclizine is an antihistamine that works by blocking a chemical in the brain that controls nausea and vomiting. What Are Side Effects of Antivert? Common side effects of Antivert include: drowsiness, fatigue, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, and weight gain. Do not drink alcohol. It can increase drowsiness caused by Antivert. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Your reactions could be impaired. Do not take other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression, or anxiety). Antivert will add to the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants (medicines that make you drowsy or less alert).
