Forzest (tadalafil) is a popular and effective treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing more blood to enter the penis to achieve and maintain an erection. Forzest is available in tablet form and is taken orally. It is typically taken as needed, about 30 minutes before sexual activity. Forzest can also be taken on a daily basis, depending on your doctor's instructions. Forzest is not for use in women or children. Forzest is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. PDE5 inhibitors are used to treat ED. They work by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP relaxes the blood vessels in the penis and increases blood flow to the penis. Forzest is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). PAH is a condition in which the blood vessels in the lungs are narrowed, making it difficult to breathe. BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland enlarges, making it difficult to urinate. Forzest is not for use in women or children. Forzest is a prescription medication. It is not available over the counter. Forzest must be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Do not take Forzest more or less often or for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor. Forzest may be taken with or without food. Take Forzest at about the same time each day. Your doctor will start you on a low dose of Forzest and gradually increase your dose. Forzest is usually taken once a day. Follow your doctor's instructions. Do not take Forzest more than once a day. Allow 24 hours to pass between doses. If you take Forzest for ED, you may be able to have sex anytime between doses. If you take Forzest for PAH, you should know that Forzest controls PAH but does not cure it. Continue to take Forzest even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Forzest without talking to your doctor. Forzest may help to control your condition, but it will not cure it. It may take several weeks or longer for Forzest to work. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse while taking Forzest. Do not take Forzest if you are also using a nitrate drug for chest pain or heart problems. Nitrate drugs include nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). Taking Forzest with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure. Some medicines can cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with Forzest. Tell your doctor about all your current medicines, especially riociguat (Adempas). Do not take Forzest if you are allergic to tadalafil. To make sure Forzest is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had: heart disease or heart rhythm problems; a recent heart attack (within the past 90 days); a recent history (in the past 6 months) of a stroke, or congestive heart failure; angina (chest pain), high or low blood pressure; pulmonary hypertension; kidney disease; liver disease; a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia; a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia; a stomach ulcer; retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye); a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease); or if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons. Forzest is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known whether tadalafil passes into breast milk or if it could affect the nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. Forzest is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. How should I take Forzest? Take Forzest exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Use the medicine exactly as directed. Forzest is usually taken only once per day. Follow your doctor's instructions. Forzest can be taken with or without food.
