Remeron

Remeron (mirtazapine) is an atypical antidepressant that is used to treat major depressive disorder. It is thought to work by increasing the levels of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain. The most common side effects of Remeron include:

Remeron may also cause more serious side effects, such as:

If you experience any of these serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately. You should also let your doctor know if you experience any less serious side effects, such as:

  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Skin rash
  • Increased sweating
  • Impotence
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Changes in menstrual cycles

Most side effects are mild and will go away on their own. However, you should let your doctor know if you experience any side effects that are bothersome or don't go away.

Before taking Remeron, you should tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • A history of heart disease or stroke
  • A history of blood clots
  • A history of seizures
  • A history of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • A history of drug or alcohol abuse
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Remeron may not be suitable for everyone. Be sure to tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions and medications before taking Remeron.

Remeron is a prescription medication and should only be taken as directed by your doctor. The usual starting dose of Remeron is 15 mg per day. Your doctor may increase your dose if needed. If you miss a dose of Remeron, you should take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, you can skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Remeron at the same time.
