Lincocin (lincomycin) is a lincosamide antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body. Lincocin is used to treat severe bacterial infections in the lungs, blood, skin, or abdomen. Lincocin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. You should not use Lincocin if you are allergic to lincomycin or clindamycin (Cleocin), or if you have kidney disease. Before you take Lincocin, tell your doctor if you have ever had allergic reactions to any other drugs. FDA pregnancy category B. Lincocin is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. It is not known whether lincomycin passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Elderly adults may be more likely to have side effects from this medicine. Lincocin can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Lincocin. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: diarrhea that is watery or bloody; sudden weakness or ill feeling, fever, chills, sore throat, mouth sores, red or swollen gums, trouble swallowing; easy bruising or bleeding; unusual weakness; numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands or feet; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; or seizure (convulsions). Less serious side effects may include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or upset stomach; vaginal itching or discharge; mild skin rash; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; headache; or changes in taste. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose. Overdose symptoms may include severe forms of some of the side effects listed in this medication guide. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
