Betnovate is a topical corticosteroid that is used to treat various skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Betnovate is available in cream, ointment, and lotion form. Betnovate is a prescription medication and should be used as directed by your doctor. Betamethasone is the active ingredient in Betnovate and is a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are hormones that are produced by the adrenal gland. Corticosteroids are used to reduce inflammation. Betnovate may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: irritation burning stinging dryness redness scaling peeling If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: blistering crusting swelling oozing Betnovate is for external use only. Do not take by mouth. Betnovate is usually applied to the skin 2 to 4 times daily. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Betnovate exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Do not apply Betnovate to broken skin. If Betnovate gets in your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with water. To use Betnovate cream, ointment, or lotion, apply a small amount to the affected area and rub it in gently. To use Betnovate foam, apply a small amount of the medicine to the affected area and rub it in gently. Do not put Betnovate foam in your mouth or swallow it. Betnovate may be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.
