Yasmin
Yasmin is a birth control medication that contains drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. It is a combined oral contraceptive pill that is taken by women to prevent pregnancy. Yasmin works by preventing ovulation and thickening the mucus in the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. It is a highly effective birth control pill that is over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Yasmin is available in a 21-day or 28-day pack, and you take one pill per day at the same time each day. If you vomit or have diarrhoea within 3-4 hours of taking a Yasmin pill, it may not be as effective in preventing pregnancy. You should take another pill as soon as possible and use a barrier method of contraception, such as a condom, for the next 7 days.
Yasmin Drospirenone Ethinyl Estradiol
Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains two active ingredients, drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Drospirenone is a synthetic progestogen and ethinyl estradiol is a synthetic oestrogen. They work together to prevent pregnancy in three ways. Firstly, they prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). Secondly, they thicken the mucus in the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. Thirdly, they change the lining of the womb, making it less likely for a fertilised egg to implant itself.
How to take Yasmin
Yasmin is available in a 21-day or 28-day pack. You take one pill per day at the same time each day, for 21 or 28 days, followed by a 7-day break. During the break, you will usually experience a withdrawal bleed, which is similar to a menstrual bleed. You will start your next pack of pills after the 7-day break, even if you are still bleeding. If you start the pill on the first day of your period, you will be protected against pregnancy immediately. If you start the pill at any other time in your menstrual cycle, you will need to use additional contraception, such as a condom, for the first 7 days.
Missing a pill
If you forget to take a pill, you should take it as soon as you remember. If you forget to take a pill and it is more than 12 hours late, you should take two pills at the same time. You should then continue to take one pill per day, at the same time each day. You may not be protected against pregnancy and you should use additional contraception, such as a condom, for the next 7 days. If you vomit or have diarrhoea within 3-4 hours of taking a pill, it may not be as effective in preventing pregnancy. You should take another pill as soon as possible and use a barrier method of contraception, such as a condom, for the next 7 days.
