What is Stromectol? Stromectol (ivermectin) is a medication that can be used to treat certain parasitic infections. It is in a class of medications called anthelmintics. It works by killing the parasites. How to use Stromectol Stromectol is usually taken as a single dose. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Stromectol exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. To take Stromectol, follow these steps: -Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose. -If you vomit within 1 hour after taking Stromectol, call your doctor. You will need to take another dose. Side effects Stromectol may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: mild dizziness mild headache nausea vomiting If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: severe dizziness fainting fast or pounding heartbeat hives rash difficulty breathing swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs hoarseness Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. What other drugs will affect Stromectol? Before taking Stromectol, tell your doctor if you are using any of the following drugs: cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune); digoxin (Lanoxin); HIV protease inhibitors such as ritonavir (Norvir), saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase), and atazanavir (Reyataz); an antibiotic such as clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (E.E.S., E-Mycin, Erythrocin), or azithromycin (Zithromax); antifungal medication such as itraconazole (Sporanox) or ketoconazole (Nizoral); heart rhythm medication such as amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone), quinidine (Quin-G), or propafenone (Rythmol); medication for seizures such as carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton); an antidepressant such as nefazodone; a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); or steroid medication such as prednisone (Deltasone) or methylprednisolone (Medrol). You may not be able to take Stromectol, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you are using any of the drugs listed above. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Stromectol. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
