Arcoxia (etoricoxib) is a medication used to relieve pain and inflammation. It belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Arcoxia is available as a generic drug. Generic drugs are usually less expensive than brand-name drugs. Arcoxia is used to treat the following conditions: * Osteoarthritis * Rheumatoid arthritis * Ankylosing spondylitis * Chronic low back pain * Acute pain Arcoxia may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Arcoxia side effects Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: * shortness of breath (even with mild exertion); * swelling, rapid weight gain; * urinating less than usual or not at all; * kidney problems--little or no urination, blood in your urine, swelling in your ankles or feet, feeling tired or short of breath; * liver problems--nausea, upper stomach pain (that may spread to your back), itchy skin, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); * high blood pressure--severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears, anxiety, nosebleed; * heart problems--chest pain, feeling short of breath; * new or worsening symptoms of heart failure--shortness of breath (even with mild exertion), swelling (especially in your lower legs or feet), rapid weight gain; or * signs of a stomach or intestinal bleeding--black, bloody, or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. Common Arcoxia side effects may include: * stomach pain, gas, bloating; * diarrhea, constipation; * headache, dizziness; * drowsiness, tired feeling; * stuffy nose; or * flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling). Arcoxia dosing information Usual Adult Dose for Osteoarthritis: Initial dose: 60 mg once daily Maintenance: 60 mg once daily Maximum dose: 60 mg once daily Comments: -Some patients may require a dose of 120 mg once daily. Usual Adult Dose for Rheumatoid Arthritis: Initial dose: 60 mg once daily Maintenance: 60 mg once daily Maximum dose: 90 mg once daily Comments: -Some patients may require a dose of 120 mg once daily. Usual Adult Dose for Ankylosing Spondylitis: Initial dose: 60 mg once daily Maintenance: 60 mg once daily Maximum dose: 90 mg once daily Usual Adult Dose for Chronic Low Back Pain: Initial dose: 60 mg once daily Maintenance: 60 mg once daily Maximum dose: 90 mg once daily Usual Adult Dose for Acute Pain: Initial dose: 60 mg once daily Maintenance: 60 mg once daily Maximum dose: 90 mg once daily What other drugs will affect Arcoxia? Taking Arcoxia with other drugs that make you drowsy or slow your breathing can increase these effects. Ask your doctor before taking Arcoxia with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures. Other drugs may interact with etoricoxib, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
